Why us?

At LingoesUK, we specialise in a wide range of

professional Chinese language services (in

simplified & traditional scripts) from and into

English, Spanish, German and French. Other

languages we handle include Japanese, Korean, Filipino Tagalog and Malay.

Founded in 2003, we are a London-based, translator-led company which understands fully how to consistently communicate well the messages of our clients in different languages across many cultures in an effective way. All our translation is proofread and vetted in-house as standard practice by an editor before delivery to our clients, ensuring accuracy and flair. To further ensure consistency of terminology and style used in large projects, we use state-of-the-art translation memory (TM) tools and terminology databases which can be provided to our clients for their approval upon request. Cost can be saved for our clients with the use of TM when old materials are updated and recycled. As we come to celebrate our 17th anniversary, we are proud to have our ISO17100:2015 certification renewed by the Association of Translation Companies UK. This means that our deliverables are certified to meet ISO17100 translation standard. We are a corporate member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) (UK) and of the Association of Translation Companies (UK). Our in-house translators, interpreters and project managers are all university graduates, some of whom are also full members of the ITI and the Chartered Institute of Linguists (UK), qualified to undertake English Chinese translation, legal translation and patent translation and manage such projects. We take confidentiality of our clients’ materials very seriously and abide by the Codes of Professional Conduct of our professional bodies. We only use interpreters who have been professionally approved by us, having worked with them in on-site assignments.

Translation

Certification and notarization

The Apostille convention or the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement for Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents governs how a legal document issued in one signatory country can be certified for use in all other signatory states. This is commonly described as the process of legalisation. Being a full corporate member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting and the Association of the Translation Companies in the UK, we are fully qualified to provide translators’ certificates recognised by the UK authorities. We have assisted hundreds of foreign students (mostly from China), hundreds of couples in mixed marriages and dozens of highly mobile professionals working overseas, mainly in China, with the legalisation of their documents including academic certificates, marriage certificates, employment references, bank statements and birth/death certificates. As we have established close working relationships with a few notaries public in London and the translations we produce are trusted by them, they can be notarized for the purposes of the issue of apostilles from the competent authorities. We are happy to assist you in this process.

Patents, Medical, Architecture, Engineering and

Technical Journals

For nearly a decade, we have been a trusted and regular supplier of patent translation to the European Patent Office. We specialise in handling difficult technical translation projects, such as medical journals, patents, clinical trials, construction project design briefs, building appointment documents and financial statements. The long- standing professional relationships we have built with doctors, engineers, accountants and IT professionals have helped us complete and deliver our projects successfully. We are delighted to share the happy news with Stufish, the entertainment architects, who won the prestigious Live Design Excellence Award in the category of Venue (Theatre) with their Han Show Theatre project in Wuhan, China; we have assisted them in the translation and editing of their design documentation and contracts. Over the years we have built a large corpus of technical terms in a wide range of subject areas with our translation memory tools – an invaluable asset to our handling of such difficult projects, normally shied away from by many non-technical translators.

Legal, Finance and Business

At the Lingoes, all legal translation is proofread and edited by legally trained translators. Our colleague, Mrs Winnie Joseph, holds a postgraduate diploma in law (College of Law, Birmingham UK) and oversees all Chinese or English translations of contracts. We attend court hearings, where clients speak Mandarin or Cantonese. Our qualified interpreters have been cleared with Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Services, ensuring their impartiality and suitability in handling confidential materials. The professional relationships we have established with ACCA-qualified accountants ensure that our translations of financial statements are fit for purposes such as due diligence. Other financial materials we have successfully handled include IPO documentation and investment brochures.

Art and Culture

We have a proven record of translating for art, which include The Cartoon Generation – Free Life, Free Cartoon by ZHU Tong (2008), and film subtitles, such as Paranormal Activity 2 (2010). Recently we translated into English a screenplay, based on the famous Chinese mystical novel, Gods of Honour, for the creation of a theme park feature in a Qingdao, China, by a well-known special digital effect production company in London. We have also been commissioned to subtitle the Chinese dialogues in the recent BBC2 drama, One Child, which has already premiered in the US. A selection of the television and radio programme synopses provided in some of the in-flight magazines of certain Asia-based airlines are also handled by us. In terms of publications, we were the translation house commissioned to translate Hong Kong/China Photographers Six – Chun Wai written by LIU Wai-tong from Chinese into English.
